In the early 90's, a prominent group of local Abbotsford business people involved in the automotive industry in the community initiated the creation and development of the Fraser Valley's very first automotive shopping centre. Although auto malls in BC were a fairly new and progressive concept at the time, The Fraser Valley Auto Mall's strategic "looped roadway" design created a unique setting for consumers to shop and test drive vehicles in a convenient, safe and controlled environment.
The 6 founding members that included Abbotsford Chrysler, Motorcade GM, MSA Ford, Sunrise Toyota (now OpenRoad), The Honda Way and VIP Mazda set-up spacious state-of-the-art storefronts on Automall Drive in Abbotsford. As the years progressed and in view of the tremendous individual success, a number of other franchises joined the ranks including Abbotsford Nissan, Abbotsford Hyundai, and Murray Kia. The 10th dealership, Abbotsford Volkswagen opened in late 2018. Now, ten full-service franchise dealerships enjoy the benefits of being in a venue that attracts a specific type of consumer to a convenient multiple franchise location for the acquisition of automotive products and services.
In building the loop, founders saw the importance of adding a secondary area to accommodate automotive related services such as a full service auto body shop, an auto and general insurance office and a number of other tenants servicing the auto industry and its customers.
